Drachenfels in the Siebengebirge

Distance from the hotel: 39.1 km

Drachenfels is a mountain in the Siebengebirge on the Rhine between Königswinter and Bad Honnef. Due to its prominent location above the Rhine valley, the ruins of Drachenfels Castle, its use as a subject of Rhine Romanticism and an early tourist development, it gained widespread fame in the 19th century. With a height of 321 m above sea level, the summit is about 270 m above the Rhine.

On the northern slope above the town of Königswinter is Drachenburg Castle, built in 1882-84 in the historicist style. A special feature is the rack railroad (Drachenfelsbahn) leading from Königswinter to the Drachenfels plateau. (Wikipedia)
