Cologne Zoo has more than 1.3 million visitors per year. And there are more than 10,000 animals to marvel at. Many of the short vacationers at the PhiLeRo Hotel also like to plan an extensive visit to the zoo. Families in particular do not miss this eventful excursion.
The Cologne Zoological Garden was founded as early as 1860 in the Riehl district of Cologne. This makes the Cologne Zoo the third oldest zoo in Germany. Especially worth seeing are the historic bird house from 1899, the monkey rock with daily public feedings, the aquarium and the jungle house. The elephant park also has numerous fans and admirers. About 12 elephants have found their home here.
Every month, numerous births are recorded at Cologne Zoo. Just recently, “Picasso” and “Cassie,” the Cologne Zoo’s brush-eared pigs, gave birth to offspring. The newcomer is named Abby and is already able to receive visitors. This summer, paradise cranes, a California sea lion, deserta tarantulas and other larger and smaller animal babies hatched.
