The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cologne is a Catholic archdiocese in Cologne, Germany, under the patronage of Saint Peter. Since 1996, Cologne Cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At 157.38 metres high, Cologne Cathedral is the second-highest church building in Europe after Ulm Minster and the third-highest in the world. The cathedral stands approximately 250 metres from the Rhine at the northern edge of the former Roman city limits, in direct proximity to the main train station, Hohenzollern Bridge, the Ludwig Museum and the Roman-Germanic Museum. It is situated on the Domhügel (Cathedral Hill), approximately 17 metres above the river, and surrounded by a modern concrete structure, the Domplatte. Cologne Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in the world built in the Gothic architectural style.
