The Drachenfels is a mountain in the Siebengebirge on the Rhine between Königswinter and Bad Honnef. Due to its striking location above the Rhine valley, the ruin of Drachenfels Castle, its use as a subject of the Rhine Romanticism, and early tourist development, it gained widespread fame in the 19th century. With a height of 321 m ü. NHN the summit lies approximately 270 m above the Rhine.
On the northern slope above the town of Königswinter is Drachenburg Castle, built in the historicist style between 1882 and 1884. A special feature is the rack railway (Drachenfelsbahn) leading from Königswinter to the Drachenfels plateau. (Source Wikipedia)
